History/Overview
The 2019 model year saw Hyundai launch its first battery-powered crossover model, the Kona Electric. It shares its basic platform with the more conventional gas Kona, but swaps in a 64-kWh battery pack and electric motor, and gets some styling cues to set it apart.

The 2023 Kona Electric is unchanged following a mid-cycle refresh last year.
Available Trims
Hyundai offers the Kona Electric in Preferred and Ultimate trim levels. Both are powered by an electric motor that drives the front wheels; AWD is not available.
Standard Features
Preferred trim comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, heated front seats and steering wheel, automatic A/C, passive keyless entry, 17-inch alloy wheels, and auto on/off headlights.
Kona Electric’s standard safety features include safe exit warning, forward collision mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, driver attention warning, and blind spot monitoring.
Ultimate trim adds highway driving assist, automatic high beams, front parking sensors, eight-speaker audio, digital gauges, and a head-up display. You also get a power driver’s seat, wireless phone charging, heated rear seats, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming mirror, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, LED headlights, a sunroof, and rain-sensing wipers.

Hyundai’s energy consumption estimates are 1.8/2.2 Le/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Chevrolet Bolt EUV, Volkswagen ID.4, Mazda MX-30, and Kia Niro EV are the Kona Electric’s closest direct competitors.
